Liverpool are confident of reaching an agreement to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, with the player keen on the move.
Frimpong is Liverpool’s leading target to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has announced he will depart when his contract expires this summer. The former has a release clause of €35m (£29.6m) in his contract, a fee that adds to his appeal for Liverpool.

Frimpong has emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting wing-backs since joining Leverkusen from Celtic in 2021. He earned back-to-back inclusions in the Bundesliga Team of the Season in 2022/23 and 2023/24 and was a key part of Leverkusen’s historic campaign last season.
The 24-year-old scored 14 goals and created 12 more in all competitions as Leverkusen won a German league and cup double without losing a game. Their title success was the club’s first-ever Bundesliga crown.
The Athletic are reporting that Liverpool are ‘confident’ of wrapping up a deal with discussions advancing. An announcement is expected after the conclusion of the Bundesliga campaign.
Arne Slot is a big admirer of his compatriot, who has earned 12 caps for the Netherlands. However, Frimpong will count as a homegrown player for Liverpool, having lived in England as a child and progressed through the Manchester City academy.
Frimpong will compete with Conor Bradley for the right-back role, though has also operated further forward for Leverkusen.
