Manchester United could look to complete a surprise move for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to reports - with the Red Devils keen to bolster the bulk of their squad in what will be another off-season focused around rebuilding after yet another managerial change this season.
Stars such as Matheus Cunha, Liam Delap and Antoine Semenyo have been linked with a move to Old Trafford to change United's fortunes in the final third, but Longstaff could represent a strong squad signing for the Red Devils on the cheap if they could land him for a cut-price fee.

Longstaff came through the Magpies' academy, and although he was a mainstay for the club last season with eight goals in 46 outings in all competitions, the emergence of Sandro Tonali this season has seen him struggle for game time, with just eight starts in the Premier League, his last one coming in early December.
With his £50,000-per-week contract due to expire in 2026, Newcastle are keen to cash in on his services, due to any potential sale falling under the Premier League's 'PSR' rules - and the report has stated that United are 'vying' for his signature. It's thought that the Red Devils have reignited their interest in the 'incredible' midfielder, having been touted to move for him all the way back in 2019, but he's not a 'number one target' for Ruben Amorim.
The Red Devils are set to lose Christian Eriksen in the summer, and with the futures of Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro both being uncertain, Longstaff would offer a wealth of Premier League experience. Having featured in 171 games in the top-flight, and at the age of just 27, he's coming into his prime years as a footballer.
With that in mind, Eddie Howe's men would want around £12million for the Tyneside-born star, though he would want regular football if he was to leave the club - and competition for his signature would be rife if he was to leave St. James' Park over the summer.
