Diogo Dalot addresses injury ahead of Europa League final,‘we go day by day…’

Diogo Dalot is facing a race against time to be fit for the Europa League final.

Although Manchester United are currently preparing for their penultimate Premier League fixture of the 2024/25 season, the focus for Ruben Amorim’s side is on winning the Europa League.

That would grant United qualification for the Champions League and increase the club’s spending power to buy better players in the summer.

However, first, United must travel to Chelsea in the Premier League. Amorim will be looking to avoid more injury setbacks, but he already has four doubts ahead of the tie.

It will be United’s final away game of the season, with the last league fixture taking place against Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

The remaining two league games will decide where United finish in the league table. They are currently 16th but could finish as low as 17th after a turbulent campaign.

Diogo Dalot taking each day at a time in recovery

Ruben Amorim told reporters Diogo Dalot is doing everything to make the final next week.

The Portuguese full-back is rarely absent and is looking to return in time to help his teammates beat Tottenham, despite the fact that United have failed to do that on three different occasions this season.

Speaking on Wednesday afternoon ahead of United’s trip to Chelsea, Dalot addressed the media about his current injury, having missed the last five fixtures due to an issue.

“I’m feeling good,” Dalot said. “So, feeling better every day. We just, at this stage, we go day by day to see how it goes, but so far so good.”

Dalot was also asked if he thinks he’ll make it in time for the final. He replied: “[I am working] really hard. You can imagine how much I want to be back as soon as possible. But we will see.”

Only time will tell if Dalot is part of the travelling squad to Bilbao.

Tottenham suffer major setback ahead of final

Sweden winger Dejan Kulusevski will miss the final due to an injury.

The Tottenham star has undergone knee surgery and will miss the rest of the season after being forced off in the 19th minute of the Premier League home defeat by Crystal Palace.

Ange Postecoglou had asked for more time to assess the injury, but the 25-year-old has been completely ruled out for the final.

Tottenham will also be without James Maddison due to injury.
