Fiorentina defender targeted by Manchester United

Manchester United’s Europa League final preparations remain the club’s top priority as they seek to end the season on a high and book their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

With injuries mounting and Champions League qualification on the line, the showdown against Tottenham in Bilbao on May 21 has taken on even more significance.

Leny Yoro is facing a race against time to be fit after suffering a setback against West Ham, while Matthijs de Ligt is also sidelined.

Ruben Amorim’s back-three system has shown promise, but with Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof expected to leave when their contracts expire, United’s defensive depth is hanging by a thread.

This growing concern has accelerated plans to reinforce the squad in the summer transfer window, particularly at the back.

One name attracting serious attention at Old Trafford is Fiorentina starlet Pietro Comuzzo, who has enjoyed a breakout season in Serie A.

The 20-year-old Italy U20 international is high on United’s radar, with Amorim reportedly identifying him as a key piece for the club’s defensive rebuild, as per Football Insider.

However, a potential deal won’t come cheap, as sFootball Insider reports that Fiorentina are set to demand between £20million and £25million for the centre-back.

The youngster recently signed a new contract keeping him at the Florence-based club until 2028, strengthening Fiorentina’s position ahead of the summer window.

Pietro Comuzzo is viewed by United as a signing “for the future”, but whether that future begins this summer remains unclear.

With Champions League football a crucial bargaining chip in negotiations, United’s pursuit may hinge entirely on the result in Bilbao.

There’s also growing competition, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle circling, and all three potentially offering Comuzzo what United might not: top-tier European football.

United have done business with Fiorentina before, with Sofyan Amrabat’s loan move and David de Gea’s post-Old Trafford switch both involving the Viola.

But despite that familiarity, Comuzzo won’t be easy to prise away, especially without elite European competition next term.

Former chief scout Mick Brown has claimed Amorim is pushing for Harry Maguire to sign a new deal, suggesting the club’s defensive plans are fluid.

Still, Comuzzo’s name is not going away—and if Amorim gets his wish, the Italian could soon be pulling on the red shirt at Old Trafford.
