Manchester United have been linked to the attacker for several months, but have faced competition from rivals Arsenal.
Manchester United have already started their attempts to improve their squad ahead of the summer transfer window. They will be keen to add attacking firepower as they are in desperate need of more goals.
If they do, it will be a big incentive to potential new players, as many will be hoping to make a summer move to a bigger club that can compete for trophies. One such player is edging ever-closer to a potential Old Trafford move.
Man United ‘close’ to verbal agreement with Cunha
United are trying to land the Brazilian in order to add more firepower up top, after he had a superb season for Wolves, netting 15 goals in 31 Premier League games. He has a £62.5m release clause in his contract as things stand.
According to Brazilian transfer journalist Valentin Furlan, United are close to a verbal agreement with the attacker. He posted on X: “Man Utd deal for Matheus Cunha expected to hit €80M — €74M clause + €6M in extras. Despite Arsenal’s late approach, as reported, talks with Wolves' ST keep moving forward. Verbal agreement close, final steps on personal terms underway.”
That means that any deal could amount to a total of £67m, which would be a big investment for Amorim; however, if Cunha can come in and provide more goals for United, then surely it will be worth it.
Arsenal reportedly made a late move for the attacker, but seeing as they failed to sign him, it looks as though Cunha will be moving to Man United instead.
Man United could secure striker duo
Cunha isn’t the only striker that United have been linked to, as they are reportedly the front-runners to land Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap too.
The 22-year-old has scored 12 goals in 35 Premier League games for Kieran McKenna’s side in what was his first full season in the top division, after he joined from Man City last summer for a fee of around £20m. Both players could add some much-needed goals to United’s attack next season.
