Bastian Schweinsteiger insists he is happy Marcus Rashford is showing his “unbelievable qualities” once more at Aston Villa.
But Rashford’s former Manchester United teammate admits his exit from Old Trafford has also left him "sad".
The pair spent two seasons together with the Red Devils between 2015 and 2017, with Rashford bursting onto the scene at Old Trafford during the 2015/16 season.
“Well, I remember him (Rashford) quite well when Louis van Gaal brought him and Jesse Lingard to the first team, and like you could immediately see the talent he's got, the cheekiness as well, I must say, speed and technical things,” said Schweinsteiger, speaking to GIVEMESPORT.
“It's sad that he couldn't contribute more to United and also England, because maybe he needed just like the right players around him, people around him, to make it easier for him as well.
“I loved playing with him. I could see his unbelievable qualities. And I'm happy now to see him actually at Villa that he is like showing it again, and that's nice to see. Wish him all the best.”
Rashford joined Villa on loan from United in February, having been frozen out at Old Trafford by current boss Ruben Amorim.
His form has improved at Villa Park and he has registered 10 goal contributions for Unai Emery’s side, helping them to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League, the semi-finals of the FA Cup and to challenge towards the top of the Premier League.
He also earned an England return, being named in Thomas Tuchel’s first Three Lions squad.
Villa have a £40m option to sign Rashford permanently this summer, while he has also been linked with Barcelona.
