Liverpool have identified RB Leipzig defender Lutsharel Geertruida as an alternative right-back option to Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, MailOnline has revealed.
The Premier League winners are now in advanced talks to sign the 24-year-old Dutchman this summer, but if a deal falls through, they have several other targets lined up.
Geertruida, who previously worked with Arne Slot at Feyenoord, is believed to be one of them and would offer far more versatility at Anfield than his compatriot Frimpong.
The Euro 2024 semi-finalist can play as a right-back, a right-sided central defender, and in midfield, where he thrived in the Eredivisie under Slot in recent seasons.

According to MailOnline, Liverpool typically have several options in mind when pursuing a new signing, and their chase of a right-back is no different.
The Reds have both Frimpong and Geertruida on their shortlist, although they appear well-placed to secure their primary target in the coming weeks or even days.
Liverpool are expected to activate Frimpong’s €35m (£30m) release clause and have already received the green light from the player, who is reportedly keen to join forces with Slot at Anfield.
Geertruida, meanwhile, was heavily linked with a move to Merseyside last summer, Slot’s first at the club, before he put pen to paper on a long-term deal with Leipzig.
The 'superstar' Dutch international penned a five-year contract upon his arrival from Feyenoord and has been an important part of Leipzig’s defence this season.
He has mostly played as a centre-back and right-back this term, with occasional appearances on the right of midfield and at left-back.
