Manchester United wantaway Marcus Rashford is set for a new step in his footballing career this summer as he looks to a permanent move away from Old Trafford.

The England international has spent the last half of this season on loan with Aston Villa in a bid to rebuild his career away from United.

Having joined The Red Devils academy at the age of seven, Rashford’s only known life at Old Trafford, with his spell with the club set to end after two decades.

However, where he ends up is a different matter.

Villa reserve the option to buy the attacker for £40 million, which seems favourable given his four goals and six assists in 17 games since arriving at Villa Park.

Previously, it was revealed that Rashford was hoping for a major move in the summer to Barcelona, with the LaLiga side looking for a long-term replacement to Robert Lewandowski.

However, The Express has now reported a huge change to these hopes.

The report explains that Rashford is now preferring a move to make his temporary move to Villa Park permanent, enjoying life under Unai Emery.

The Spanish manager was a key part in Rashford agreeing to the loan move, feeling he was the right manager to get his career back on track.

Under Emery, not only has Rashford been playing well in the Premier League and Champions League, but he’s also reclaimed his spot in the England national team under Thomas Tuchel.

However, his continued stay at Villa Park is heavily reliant on the club’s finishing Premier League position and in turn, which European tournament they qualify for next season.

Rashford’s fee and hefty wage salary have proved to be a major barrier for even Europe’s elite, with £325,000 per week proving too much for most sides.

It’s been reported that if Villa miss out on Champions League football, a move for Rashford is financially out of the question, with The Villains currently sat in sixth place.

Their final two games will see Emery’s side face the pair of struggling sides Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, with Villa still able to finish as high as second of the results go their way.

As the side are currently drawing with Chelsea on 63 points, with The Blues facing United and Nottingham Forest in their final two games, the race is certainly on for Champions League football.
