Forget Harvey Elliott, there’s another ‘outstanding’ Liverpool player Wolves should actually…

Liverpool attacker Harvey Elliott has emerged as a key target for Wolves amid the impending departure of Matheus Cunha to Manchester United.

Wolves were linked with Elliott last week as a possible replacement for Cunha, seeing him as a player who could play in one of Vitor Pereira’s number 10 roles.

The 22-year-old has been touted with a move out of Anfield after starting just one Premier League game under Arne Slot, who has mainly utilised the Englishman from the bench.

Elliott was once called ‘special’ by Jamie Carragher and is a very talented player, but Wolves fans were concerned about how much he would cost.

Liverpool have valued Elliott at around £40 million, close to the club-record fee they paid for Cunha in 2023, which suggests why Pereira should snub the England under-21 star and sign another player from Anfield instead.

Wolves should sign Caoimhin Kelleher instead of Harvey Elliott

Wolves aren’t just looking to upgrade their attack this summer, as improvements could be made to their rearguard, including a move for a new goalkeeper.

Jose Sa has been criticised for some of his performances this term, resulting in speculation surrounding his future, meanwhile, Sam Johnstone has failed to establish himself as a first-choice under Pereira.

The Wanderers need a quality shot-stopper to replace both Sa and Johnstone, with Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher potentially emerging as an option.

Wolves were interested in signing Kelleher last summer, but a concrete offer was never sent, and now could be the perfect time to sign the Republic of Ireland international.

Kelleher wants to leave Liverpool in pursuit of regular game time and, unfortunately, he has a world-class keeper like Alisson Becker ahead of him at Anfield.

That means the Old Gold should jump at the opportunity to sign the 26-year-old, who could relish being a number one at another Premier League club.

What Jurgen Klopp said about Kelleher

When called upon at Liverpool across his 67 appearances, Kelleher has often done a brilliant job particularly during their Carabao Cup runs.

Former manager Jurgen Klopp even recognised his impact in April 2024, claiming the Reds wouldn’t have won the Carabao Cup without him in the side.

“If you would have asked me before the season, I think I was never shy of praising Caoimh,” Klopp said.

“You can take Ali out for a long spell, it would have been a problem not because of Caoimh but because he never had to play that many games, so you never know how that will look. Absolutely outstanding season; without Caoimhin Kelleher, no chance to be in the position we are.”

Kelleher is easily an upgrade on Wolves’ current shot-stoppers, Sa and Johnstone, with this assessment from Klopp showing how highly he valued his keeper.
