Steph Curry is known by his famous nicknames "Chef Curry" and "Baby-Faced Assassin". However, some of his lesser-known names, such as "The Human Torch" and "Threezus," and the stories behind them might surprise you.
Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is widely regarded as one of the greatest point guards in NBA history.
Known for his extraordinary skill set and revolutionary three-point shooting, he has transformed the game worldwide.
While many fans know him as Chef Curry or the Baby-Faced Assassin, there are several lesser-known nicknames you might not have heard before.
Here are some of the most popular Steph Curry nicknames – along with the fascinating stories behind each of them.
1. Chef Curry
Probably the most popular Steph Curry nickname is Chef Curry, first used in the lyrics of the famous rapper Drake's song "0 to 100 / The Catch Up," released in July 2013.
In the song, Drake refers to Steph as Chef Curry, highlighting his ability to "cook up" opponents with his exceptional ball-handling and three-point shooting.
"I been Steph Curry with the shot. Been cookin' with the sauce, Chef Curry with the pot, boy," Drake raps in the lyrics.
Additionally, Steph's wife, Ayesha Curry, is a chef, adding an extra layer of playful meaning to the famous NBA nickname.
2. Baby-Faced Assassin
This nickname has followed Stephen Curry throughout his entire career, actually dating back to his middle school days.
In Marcus Thompson II's book, Golden, which chronicles Curry's remarkable rise to NBA stardom, the origin and earliest known instance of this nickname are revealed in this compelling passage:
"Lackey (Curry's middle school coach) called a timeout because he wanted to prepare his team for the inevitable loss, use it as a teaching moment about how to handle losing properly.
He told them to finish out the game strong, to hold their heads up because they'd played hard against a team they had no business being on the court against.
Lackey, though, did have one move left. He just didn't know it until Curry spoke up.
Curry saying anything in the huddle was a surprise. He barely talked. Normally, he would just listen to the play, say, 'OK, then go run the play.' But something had been triggered in Curry.
"That's when Steph got serious," Lackey recalled. "He just said, 'We're not losing this game. Give me the ball.' That's exactly what he said. So I said, 'Give the ball to Steph. That's the play."
What happened over the next minute was a stunning takeover.
Two quick 3-pointers by Curry rattled the opponent and changed the whole tenor of the game. The Queensway Saints won by 6.
The Baby-Faced Assassin was born that day. The alter ego that would turn the kindest, cutest kid around into a vindictive, explosive predator on the court.
From that moment on, "The Baby-Faced Assassin" became a fitting Stephen Curry nickname, perfectly capturing the contrast between his youthful appearance and the ruthless, cold-blooded style of play on the court.

3. The Human Torch
Another one of Stephen Curry's nicknames is The Human Torch, a name popularized by fans early in his NBA career.
The nickname draws inspiration from Curry's almost superhuman ability to "catch fire" from beyond the arc, hitting seemingly impossible three-pointers from anywhere on the court.
All it takes is a couple of consecutive makes, and suddenly he's unstoppable – lighting up the scoreboard in a matter of minutes.
Acknowledged by Curry himself, his ability to single-handedly take over games with his instant momentum-shifting shooting earned him the nickname.
4. Threezus
Among the fun nicknames for Stephen Curry is Threezus, a fan-created moniker that gained traction during the early years of his NBA career.
The name is a clever blend of "three" – referencing his unmatched three-point shooting – and "Jesus," implying a near-divine status on the court.
While the nickname is most commonly linked to Curry today, it may also nod to Ray Allen, another legendary shooter who portrayed Jesus Shuttlesworth in the film He Got Game.
Allen, too, was occasionally referred to as Threezus during his playing days.
Over the years, the nickname has also been loosely applied to other elite shooters like Kyle Korver, but Curry, with his revolutionary range and record-breaking performances, has firmly cemented himself as the rightful bearer of the name.
5. Steph Skyfu*ker

Steph Skyfu*ker derives from an elaborate series of interlocking visual and verbal puns, according to Deadspin.
It turns out that Chinese has a phrase similar to the English expression "the sky's the limit."
Over time, the saying "breaking through the sky" has described someone who has vastly exceeded all expectations. However, in some contexts, the same characters used for "breaking through" can also serve as vulgar slang for "fu*k."
Since Curry defied all odds to become a superstar, people started saying he had broken through the sky – or, in a slang interpretation, "fu*ked the sky."
