Manager claims he's better than Ruben Amorim after naming Man United as dream job

Ruben Amorim has not quite had the impact on Manchester United’s league results that fans and Ineos hoped he would.

Manchester United are slumped in 16th in the Premier League table and can still finish the lowest of any surviving club this season depending on the final two results.

Ruben Amorim labels it “embarrassing” that United are so low in the table, and he knows big changes are needed if he is going to keep his job next season.

Amorim is expected to finish in the top six next season, so there will be huge pressure on him to get his 3-4-2-1 system working over the summer.

While Amorim has been flawless in Europe, the Premier League has proven a very difficult hunting ground for him. As the pressure builds, one former manager has already claimed he would be doing a better job.

Sean Dyche says he’d win more games than Ruben Amorim at Man United

With only six wins in his first 25 league matches, Amorim’s win rate as a manager isn’t exactly what United fans would have expected.

Yet the fanbase can see the situation for what it is. United have prioritised the Europa League under Amorim, and the Portuguese head coach has been working with an imbalanced and often injury-hit squad.

However, former Everton and Burnley manager Sean Dyche believes he would be doing a better job in the Old Trafford hot seat.

Speaking to The Overlap, Dyche said: “Manchester United was always the job I wanted because of the size of the club. Not just because it’s Man United, but because of the sheer grand job it is.

“There’s a worldwide feel to it.”

When asked about Amorim and his refusal to change his style, Dyche said: “He better win some games then, pretty quick. In my opinion.

“I reckon if I went there and played my way I’d win more games. I’m not just saying that, just 4-4-2. Give them basic rules and principles.

“You don’t have to over-teach everyone.”

Ruben Amorim demolished Sean Dyche’s Everton

Dyche’s claims that he would be doing a better job than Amorim are laughable given the result when the two coaches came head-to-head in December.

Just a few weeks after Amorim’s appointment as head coach, United demolished Everton 4-0 at Old Trafford.

Despite the emphatic victory, it was after that match that Amorim said a “storm is coming” for United, and so far he has given no reason to suggest he is not the right man to weather it.

Amorim was signed to implement his 3-4-2-1 style of play that proved to be so dominant at Sporting Lisbon – both in their league matches and in the Champions League.

Ideally, Amorim wanted to join at the end of the season so he had a full pre-season to bring over his tactical ideas, but he was given an ultimatum by Ineos to join in November.

Amorim has stubbornly stuck to his tactics, and so he should. There have been signs of improvement, and he could yet still be named a European champion by the end of his first season.
