Transfer stance set out as Nottingham Forest reignite interest in £35m Premier League midfielder

Nottingham Forest are said to have reignited their interest in Fulham star Andreas Pereira ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Reds are planning to bolster head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad for the 2025/26 season. Ensuring they have sufficient strength in depth across the pitch will be particularly important given they have qualified for Europe for the first time in three decades.

Pereira was on Forest’s radar 12 months ago, with reports suggesting they had two bids for the midfielder rejected. And it seems the club are considering trying their luck again as they prepare for the opening of the transfer window next month.

According to TNT Sports in Brazil, Pereira is once again a target for the Reds. However, it seems they will face some stiff competition in the race to secure his signature.

Marseille have had their eye on the Brazilian for some time and are said to remain keen. Like Forest, the French side have also tried to prise the player away previously.

TNT claim Fulham rebuffed three offers from Marseille last August, around the same time as the Reds showed their interest. The Cottagers reportedly wanted around £35 million for Pereira at the time.

The 29-year-old has 12 months left to run on his contract in the capital, having joined from Manchester United for a reported £10m in the summer of 2022. It is said his deal includes an automatic renewal clause for an additional year, depending on a certain number of games being played.

TNT suggest the prospect of playing in the Champions League could affect any decision the player makes. The Reds are still in with a chance of securing their place among Europe's elite next term, although they are relying on other results going their way in the final two rounds of fixtures. Marseille are second in Ligue 1 and are likely to be involved in the 2025/26 competition.

Regardless of whether Forest make it to the Champions League, they are in for an important summer at the City Ground. Last Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City provided the point Nuno’s side needed to qualify for some form of European competition.

The Portuguese will require additional resources to help his team cope with the demands of the extra games. It means incomings as well as outgoings are on the cards when the transfer window opens in June.
