Newcastle United have been linked with Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish.
Pep Guardiola stayed coy on Jack Grealish when directly asked about the player’s future in March.
Speculation has ramped up in recent weeks about the England international’s future. Signed four years ago for a British record £100million, Grealish - who has started just seven Premier League games this season - has won the lot at the Etihad.
But a lack of game time and off-field drama have raised doubts over his future. The Athletic have named Newcastle United as a possible destination for the 29-year-old this summer.
Ironically, Grealish was spotted enjoying a boozy night out in Newcastle earlier this year having been at a Washington social club hours earlier. When probed about the incident, Guardiola refused to comment on his personal life.
Pep Guardiola did not offer clarity on Jack Grealish staying
Speaking in March, Guardiola told Grealish - or any City players wanting to leave - to deal with the club’s hierarchy. He said: “I am not going to talk individually about what happens in the future. The future is Bournemouth and then Leicester. I’m sorry, I’m not involved.
“When we don’t have any titles to fight for I can understand completely and they (the players) can do it privately with the club. It’s fine. But I’m not involved - and I don’t want to be involved because we are here to do our job and help Man City win games. That is what we have to do.”
Jack Grealish endured ‘most difficult’ year of career
Grealish opened up about his City struggles following an FA Cup win against Leyton Orient. He said: “Last year, the whole year itself, it was weird because my little daughter was born, but apart from that it was one of the most difficult years - probably the most difficult year of my life for many reasons, on and off the pitch.
“I found it really difficult. But it's a new year, a sort of fresh start, and hopefully I can kick on from here. Listen, I want to start playing more often and have that rhythm - the way I was a couple of years ago when I was playing a lot of games in a row.
“I do find it difficult at times to come in and out of games, not really playing. Hopefully, I can keep training well and playing a few more games.”
