Fabrizio Romano confirms Man Utd youngster whose sale 'shocked' Bruno Fernandes now targeted by many clubs, United will …

Manchester United need all the financial help they can get in the summer and in the form of Maxi Oyedele’s potential move, they could be set for one in the summer, albeit with a twist.

Maxi Oyedele was sold to Legia Warsaw last summer for a fee of just £500k, and it was reported later that Bruno Fernandes was ‘shocked’ at Oyedele’s sale.

He has proven those claims to be correct with a sterling season in Poland, leading him to be linked with a move after just one season.

United’s 40% sell-on clause hangs in the balance as Oyedele was recently linked to Shakhtar and Fabrizio Romano has now dropped a major update on his future.

Maxi Oyedele transfer latest

United’s ruthlessness in the transfer market last summer is bearing fruit, albeit belatedly in some cases, with Maxi Oyedele being one of those examples.

Oyedele was highly-rated in the academy and did well in pre-season too so selling him for just £500k didn’t sit right with many.

However, United not only inserted a sell-on clause but also got matching rights for the player, the former of which is set to benefit them.

Romano has said that while Oyedele is not likely to join Shakhtar, as reported previously, he’s garnering interest from many clubs across Europe.

He said: “Maxi Oyedele will not join Shakhtar Donetsk despite approaches as there are more European clubs keen on signing former Man Utd player.

“Understand MUFC will receive 40% of the future sale for €6m release clause available this summer included into his Legia Warsaw deal.”

Oyedele’s release clause is a problem for Man Utd

While United will be happy that Oyedele is almost certainly leaving Poland this summer and, in turn, netting them around £2 million from the sell-on clause, the release clause is a problem.

If Oyedele is set to spark a bidding war for his services, then the final fee could have been well over his current release clause, a direct benefit to United.

His agent has played a blinder where the power is now in Oyedele’s hands after betting on himself and negotiating a set exit fee.

Regardless of where he moves to, it is Oyedele who will get the most money, with both Legia Warsaw and Man Utd knowing how much they’ll make from the move.

Still, getting a total of about £2.5 million for a player who made zero league appearances for the club is a good step forward.
