'Best striker in the world’ now open to joining Liverpool this summer - BBC

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak would be intrigued by the prospect of joining Liverpool this summer, but there are no indications he would actively push for a move, BBC journalist Sami Mokbel has revealed.

The Sweden international remains an option to bolster the Premier League champions’ frontline this summer, although luring him away from St James’ Park remains a difficult task.

Isak will have three years left on his contract at the end of the season and has so far shown no sign he wants to leave.

Newcastle could also strengthen their chances of keeping the 26-year-old this summer by qualifying for next season’s Champions League, as they sit third in the league with two games remaining.

According to Mokbel, Isak’s chances of departing Newcastle for another Premier League club are ‘remotely slim’ this summer, as the Magpies are likely to demand an ‘astronomical’ fee for the Sweden international.

Isak’s contract has no known release clause, and it is believed the Magpies would entertain offers north of £120m for the 'best striker in the world'.

His departure from St James’ Park appears more realistic next summer, when Isak will have two years left on his deal, unless Newcastle can tempt him to sign a new contract.

Liverpool are anticipating a busy second summer under Arne Slot and are now in advanced talks to make Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong their first offseason arrival.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Dutch wing-back is now in contract talks to join the Reds and replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, with Liverpool expected to trigger his €35m (£30m) release clause.
