Man Utd star who has not played for weeks provides injury update ahead of Europa League final v Tottenham

Manchester United are preparing for the Europa League final against Tottenham on Wednesday night.

Manchester United are hoping to salvage something from this season as they are preparing to play against Tottenham in the Europa League final on Wednesday night to try and win the competition for a second time.

Ruben Amorim’s side would also get themselves a spot in the Champions League if they beat Spurs to the trophy, which would provide huge financial benefits, and pulling power for summer transfers if they were to qualify.

Dalot provides positive injury update

Dalot will miss United’s game against Chelsea on Friday night, but he is hoping to make a return for the final next week as he continues to work hard to recover. He recently issued an update on his calf injury, suggesting that he thinks he will be ready to play against Spurs in the Europa League final.

The Portuguese defender spoke to the media on Thursday and said: “I’m feeling good. So, feeling better every day. At this stage, we go day by day to see how it goes but so far so good. I’m working really hard. You can imagine how much I want to be back – as soon as possible. So I’m really pushing myself to be available as soon as possible but we will see.”

Heading into the game, Dalot believes that the matchup with Tottenham will provide an entertaining game. The two sides have met three times this season, with Spurs winning all three games.

However, despite the record, Dalot says that it doesn’t matter: “When you get to a final in a competition like this, what you have done previously will not be important to the result. Two English teams are playing and it will be a very good game to watch I think. We are two big clubs so the aim is to be in the best position mentally and physically to win it and I think that’s the goal that we need to have.”

However, despite his positivity, Dalot did say that even if United win the Europa League, it wouldn’t make up for how poor a season they have had at Old Trafford. He continued: “Winning the Europa League would mean less bad than the season actually is. Everybody knows this is not the standard for the club, nowhere near it.

“What we have been doing this season is not what this club deserves, so I think it is the least we could do for the fans because they suffer as much as us. I know how much it wins, European trophies and European nights.”

Who else could miss the final?

Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven are in doubt heading into United’s game against Chelsea on Friday night, however, they will all likely be available to play against Tottenham next week - a huge boost for Amorim.

Alongside Dalot, Matthijs De Ligt is a doubt for the final next week. He is dealing with a knee injury. As things stand, the Dutchman is currently being assessed as he tries to recover for next week.
