Henry Winter calls out what Ruben Amorim has been saying about Man Utd, raises worrying concern

Ruben Amorim’s interviews and press conferences have been dissected endlessly and that’s mostly because of his brutal honesty, a part of which has been called out by journalist Henry Winter.

To Ruben Amorim’s credit, even he’s accepted multiple times that he gets carried away and crosses a line when talking honestly about the problems.

It has made him popular with the fans, with the Man Utd manager finally echoing their sentiments instead of gaslighting them into believing that everything is fine.

However, what he’s been saying about Man Utd of late has struck the wrong chord with Henry Winter and probably will with many Man Utd fans too.

It raises a worrying concern.

Ruben Amorim’s questionable Man Utd claim

Amorim has been swamped with media duties since day one at Old Trafford but he wouldn’t have minded doing the latest ones.

He spoke to the media in the build-up to the Europa League final, a game that can change everything for the club this season and the next one.

It’s a game that Amorim has regarded must-win already in a brutal message to his players, and his team has been flying in Europe anyway.

However, amidst all the positivity, Amorim also claimed that the club might be better off not being in the Champions League next season as it will give him more time to train.

He’s clearly not convinced of the squad’s ability to cope with multiple elite competitions but saying that publicly goes directly against the narrative everyone has been clinging on to.

Winter caught on it and called out Amorim with a post on X: “Ruben Amorim is a good, likeable head coach who has a huge task on his hands rebuilding MUFC squad and fortunes. He talks a lot (sometimes too much), is commendably honest about the size of the task, but needs to transmit more positivity.

“Amorim was asked whether a season out of Europe would give him more time for rebuilding. He knows full well United have to be in Europe.

“Amorim should talk more about relishing the challenge. He’s at a great club with a huge, passionate fanbase craving strong leadership.”

Amorim’s need to balance honesty with hope at Man Utd

Amorim’s honesty is much appreciated but as Winter said, the fanbase does need a bit of hope from time to time and the Man Utd manager might be veering too far towards being a realist.

Most importantly, the players cannot be led to believe in any circumstances that losing the Europa League final is okay since it gives Amorim more time on the training pitch next season.

Scholes questioned Amorim’s mentality earlier and this follows from the same vein, with the manager effectively giving his players an out with a silver lining in case of a final loss.

Erik ten Hag was often accused of wearing blinkers and being devoid of any critical analysis when it came to his team, which is why Amorim was a breath of fresh air.

He’s gone so far towards the other extreme that the fans won’t mind some hope now!
