Leeds United have been targeting players with Premier League experience over the last month. The club has been linked with a host of names recently.
This is a bit of a shift from the last time the Whites were in the top flight. Victor Orta and Marcelo Bielsa bought players from outside England. Rodrigo Moreno, Raphinha and Robin Koch all arrived in the 2020 summer transfer window. Even under Daniel Farke, Leeds have signed players from outside England – Illia Gruev and Ao Tanaka the most recent ones.

The past couple of weeks have seen the club linked with Premier League midfielders. Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff and Tomas Soucek have been linked with a move to Elland Road. There were reports that Daniel Farke asked for players with experience in the league in the middle of the park.
Now, it looks like the Whites could sign another West Ham player this summer. According to reports, Leeds are one of the many clubs interested in signing Vladimir Coufal. The Hammers announced this week that they will not be offering the defender a new deal. Coufal is attracting interest from multiple clubs, including Everton, managed by former West Ham boss David Moyes.
Graeme Bailey has now confirmed that Coufal’s representatives have been in talks with Leeds United:
“There is truth in that his people have spoken to Leeds – he is under consideration.” he told Leeds United news.
Coufal is a quality back up
If Leeds do sign the 32-year old, he will not be expected to start over Jayden Bogle. Bogle just offers too much in attack and defence to be dropped from the lineup. Coufal would be used in a rotational role, like he has at West Ham this season since Aaron Wan Bissaka joined the London club.
The Czech international could also be an option if Daniel Farke needs a more defensive option at fullback. Coufal could be the ideal Sam Byram replacement.
