When I think of Bryan Mbeumo, I immediately think of a Premier League-proven winger who scores goals, creates them and can also play in a couple of different roles.
However, there is far more to his game than this, with one surprise stat emerging on the Brentford star in light of ongoing links with a potential move to Newcastle United.
He wouldn’t come cheap, but the more you look at his profile and all round game, the more he seems like a perfect fit for Eddie Howe.
18 goals and seven assists in 36 appearances aren’t the only impressive statistics attached to Bryan Mbeumo’s 2024/25 campaign with Brentford.
It’s emerged that the Cameroon international has covered **367.9km** in the Premier League this season.
To put this into context, only Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has covered more ground than the 25-year-old, suggesting he has been THE most active winger in the Premier League this season.
Given Howe’s ‘intensity is our identity’ mantra and his requirements for our wingers to do plenty of running in both directions, this adds to the belief that Mbeumo could be perfect in our ongoing hunt for a new right-sided forward.
Earlier this month, The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards reported that [Mbeumo is high on Newcastle’s wishlist](https://www.nufcblog.co.uk/2025/05/01/newcastles-plans-to-sign-60m-bryan-mbeumo-lead-to-transfer-dilemma-report/) this summer – although a £60m-plus move is not simple.
He reported that paying a club record fee for the Bees star could limit our ability to spend big on several other top targets, with a quality centre-back, striker and goalkeeper also wanted.
Striking the balance in terms of spending, signing real quality and improving our squad depth will be a tricky act for Paul Mitchell and co, but it really does feel like Mbeumo could be the ideal man to take our right side to the next level, while maintaining the energy Jacob Murphy offers.
