Seamus Coleman responds to Carlo Ancelotti claim with an update on his Everton future

Seamus Coleman’s Everton future is hanging in the balance ahead of the final weeks of the season.

Sunday is set to be an emotional day for Everton as they bid farewell to Goodison Park following their game against Southampton.

It feels only right that David Moyes leads the Toffees into their final-ever game at the Old Lady and fans will be hoping to see an appearance from Coleman.

A difficult campaign can almost be put in the past for the Ireland international.

Coleman’s Everton future has not been confirmed yet with his contract set to expire at the end of the term.

The farewell on Sunday may not only be for Goodison Park but also for Coleman who could well be playing in front of an Everton crowd for the final time.

Ahead of the game, he has reacted to what Carlo Ancelotti previously said about how old he could play to.

However, his future on Merseyside remains up in the air despite Ancelotti once saying he could play until he is 40-years-old.

Speaking on the Royal Blue podcast, the Everton captain has responded to the Italian’s claim on the back of what’s been a tricky campaign.

“Yeah, I’m alright. I’ve had a difficult season in terms of injuries, but I put a lot into what I do physically and emotionally as an Everton player,” he said.

“It’s not just been playing pressure but it’s also been trying to galvanise people at all times. It’s been a tough year but the main thing for this football club has been to get to the new stadium as a Premier League club, and that’s ticked off. The club can now look forward to a brighter future.”

Moyes has mooted an Everton coaching role for Coleman once he does decide to hang up his boots.

It is clear Everton do not want to lose Coleman’s leadership qualities ahead of the move to Bramley-Moore Dock, but his days on contributing on the pitch may well be behind him.

What Carlo Ancelotti said about Goodison Park’s Finale

In a shock turn, Ancelotti has joined the Brazil national side and is set to leave Real Madrid at the end of the term.

Everton are set to welcome back a number of club legends on Sunday to recognise their contributions to the club’s history.

The 65-yer-old may not be one of them in attendance, but Ancelotti has shared his very own Goodison Park message ahead of the Old Lady’s send-off.

“It’s a historic stadium. I get a little bit sad when Goodison closes. This is the life of Everton fans and I hope they bring the same passion and the same noise to the new stadium,” he said.

On top of Goodison Park, it is apparent the Italian has a lot of time for Coleman and what he offers the club.
