Ruben Amorim believes Man Utd position is unwarranted, admits looking like the 'crazy guy'

Ruben Amorim believes Manchester United deserve to be higher in the Premier League.

Although Ruben Amorim is guilty of rotating his side for Premier League matches in recent weeks, the United head coach believes the team deserves to be higher than 16th in the league table.

The only saving grace for United has been their Europa League campaign after going the entire campaign unbeaten ahead of next week’s final.

United will face Tottenham in the final and that is set to take the focus over the team’s trip to Stamford Bridge on Friday.

Chelsea are still hoping to clinch one of the top four spots, which would secure Champions League football for next season. The only way United can achieve that is by winning the Europa League, meaning they only have pride to play for against the Blues.

Manchester United should be higher up the Premier League table

United head coach Amorim believes United deserve to be higher than 16th in the Premier League table – but admits to being reluctant over his view as people would think he is ‘crazy’.

Although that didn’t stop Amorim from expressing those beliefs when he spoke to the media on Wednesday.

Amorim pointed to the statistics, particularly in front of goal, showing that United should be winning more games and higher up the table.

It’s something he will have to wait until next season to prove.

“It is hard to talk about that without looking like a crazy guy, but if you see the XG, for example, in the last few games, ours is bigger,” Amorim told reporters.

“Against Wolves, we are so near and they score a set-piece. That was the first time they reached our goal and they score and we had our opportunities, especially in the second half.

“I can understand that but it is hard to talk about that in this moment. Let’s focus on finishing in a good way and then we will prepare the future at the end of the season.”

Best way to prepare for Europa League final

Amorim has urged his United players to finish the season strongly by winning their remaining league games against Chelsea and Aston Villa.

He added: “The best way is to face the game like we should face the game: it is to win the game. We need to perform, we need to win points in Premier League and that is the feeling.

“We talk about that after West Ham. We need to improve in the way we face competitions. Stay focused in every moment of the game because against West Ham we had clear situations to score. From West Ham’s first opportunity, they score one goal so these small details matter.

“The only way I know to prepare a final is in the normal game we must play the same way as a final.”
