**Newcastle United are set to bolster their attacking options this summer by adding a top-class right winger to the attack.**
There have been a few players linked with filling the void left when Miguel Almiron left in January with Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo heavily tipped to be the one to fill the void left by Miggy.
However, Newcastle have learned lessons from last summer and will not be putting all their eggs in one basket and chasing one player per position, so the club are creating a list of players for each spot they need filling.
Now Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has provided a possible avenue for the Magpies to explore while speaking to Betfair (h/t [NUFCBlog](https://www.nufcblog.co.uk/2025/05/15/alan-shearer-hints-at-newcastle-move-for-real-madrid-talent-hes-an-excellent-player/)).

Alan Shearer wants Rodrygo at Newcastle United
Alan Shearer has set his sights high for a new right winger

Versatile winger Rodrygo is not enjoying himself at Real Madrid lately, and it looks as though the Brazilian is looking for a way out. Alan Shearer thinks Newcastle could be the perfect destination.
> “I think that Rodrygo would do very well in the Premier League – he’s an excellent player. I heard one or two things that maybe last year, one or two English clubs were chasing him.“If that is the case, that he’s not happy at Real Madrid, then there won’t be a shortage of offers for him to come and play in the Premier League. I think that there would be two or three clubs who would try and get him.“I would possibly say Newcastle could be one of those clubs, but that all depends on whether or not he could do it in the Premier League. Could he do it for Newcastle? Yeah, absolutely.“That all depends on the finances and the deal that’s there. I wouldn’t put it past them to have a look and whether that would work or not. I don’t know his personal situation, but I’m pretty sure that there would be two or three clubs chasing him.

> “Bruno Guimaraes will know him very well and if it were to be the case, I’m sure that he would speak to him.”
Probably more chance of going swimming with Sydney Sweeney than signing Rodrygo to be honest
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 24-year-old can play all across the front three but is a right-winger by trade. This season, he has managed 13 goals and 10 assists for Real Madrid in 50 games in all competitions.
Other than Alan Shearer's fantasy, there have been no links to Rodrygo, and it's likely that even if Real Madrid were willing sellers, he wouldn't come cheap.
We don't see this one going anywhere, unfortunately, but still, it was a nice thought from Shearer. We'd be happy enough with Bryan Mbeumo to be honest, at least he's a proven Premier League player.
