Liverpool have been handed an update on Real Madrid's Rodrygo amid reports linking the winger with a move to Anfield. Spanish outlet Marca have reported that Rodrygo's dissatisfaction at Real has grown throughout the 2024/25 season.

Despite making 50 appearances across all competitions, with 38 starts, his role has shifted due to the high-profile signings of Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe, leading to tactical changes by manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Ancelotti had to explain Rodrygo's absence from two key matches, including last weekend's El Clasico clash against Barcelona, attributing it to illness and injury. However, rumours had already begun to circulate, with claims that Rodrygo had made a drastic decision never to play for Real Madrid again.

The Guardian later identified Liverpool, along with their rivals Arsenal and Manchester City, as being 'attentive' to the situation, ready to act if tensions escalate further over the summer.

And journalist Fabrizio Romano, who specialises in transfers, has provided the latest on Rodrygo's future in his latest newsletter for GIVEMESPORT.

"The Rodrygo situation is not decided at this stage," he said. "So, despite links, there are still steps and decisions to make."

The player in question has now, for all intents and purposes, sought to silence any discussion of his feelings towards Real.

"Thanks for all the messages and concern. I’ll be back soon [praying emoji]," a message to his Instagram story read on top of a photograph of the view from inside a recovery chamber.

The message concluded: "Stop making stuff up [facepalm emoji, male sign emoji]."

Rodrygo has previously revealed that he could have joined Liverpool before a move to Spain came about in 2018.

"We didn’t close the deal because I didn’t want to. I wanted to stay at Santos even though the offer was very good," the winger personally revealed one year ago.

"The pathway they promised me would also have been very good for my career. I was going to finish my studies in England to prepare for European football.

"It had always been my dream to play in Europe. Everything was very good, but my desire spoke louder. I wanted to stay at Santos and make a bit of history at the club.

"And that’s what happened. I was able to fulfil my dream of playing for Santos. But it’s true, I almost went to Liverpool."
