Rangers’ next managerial appointment continues to gather speculation amid the 49ers’ imminent takeover.

Barry Ferguson looks increasingly unlikely to remain the Gers manager after the current campaign has concluded.

It is unclear who the 49ers will appoint, but one name who has recently been linked is Davide Ancelotti.

The Real Madrid assistant manager has emerged as one of the favourites for the position, with Jim White now providing an update on the ongoing speculation.

Rangers’ interest in Ancelotti has become apparent over recent days.

MORE RANGERS STORIES

It has been reported that the Gers have made an offer to Ancelotti, but the Italian has multiple other proposals from around the globe.

On top of this, Ancelotti could still join the Brazilian national team, and follow his father, Carlo Ancelotti.

Speculation remains high, with Jim White now explaining what Dave King told him regarding the potential appointment, as well as what Ancelotti said in a talkSPORT interview back in 2020.

He told talkSPORT (14 May): “Last week, Dave King spoke to us from Johannesburg, and he said that the 49ers could well be in situ, with the takeover done by mid-June.

“Spanish media are reporting that Rangers’ next manager will be Davide Ancelotti, son of Carlo. Rangers made no comment on Carlo.

“It is believed that Ancelotti is one of a number of names being considered.

“Back in 2020, when Davide was working alongside Carlo at Everton, they told me why he became a coach.”

A clip of Davide Ancelotti’s interview then played as he said: “I tried to play, I noticed that my touch was not good enough, my legs did not do what I wanted too.

“I decided to stop and get a good knowledge of sports science before I began my journey to become an assistant coach, and in the future, I want to be a coach.”

Rangers should move on from Ancelotti

The last thing Rangers need is a long, drawn-out saga regarding who they are going to appoint as their new manager.

Speculation has already lasted weeks on this front, especially since their defeat in the Europa League quarter-finals to Athletic Bilbao.

If Rangers continue to pursue Ancelotti, this will likely continue for much longer, with the Italian attracting interest from multiple clubs.

This is something they simply cannot afford to do. An appointment is needed quickly to give the incoming manager the most amount of time to prepare for what will be a busy summer.

Therefore, it may be in Rangers’ best interests to move on from Ancelotti in their pursuit for a new manager.
