Earlier today, The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards reported that Sven Botman was expected to miss the final two games of the season.
He insisted that the results of scan had not yet come back, but stated there was ‘huge concern’ at Newcastle that the Dutchman had been unable to train all week after coming off early against Chelsea due to discomfort in his knee.
Several hours later, a fresh update has now arrived on Botman’s condition, offering some good and bad news heading into the final 10 days of 2024/25.
According to Craig Hope at [The Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-14715483/Newcastle-new-badge-crest-transfer-news.html), Sven Botman has NOT suffered another serious knee injury.
A scan has left the 25-year-old ‘hopeful’ of playing again this season, indicating no significant issues, but it remains to be seen if he will feature at Arsenal on Sunday or in next weekend’s final day meeting with Everton.
It’s thought the sensible choice could be for Botman to fully recover and avoid risking another injury over the next fortnight, allowing him to rest ahead of our pre-season schedule building up to a busy 2025/26 campaign.
Botman underwent surgery for an ACL issue last year but was under the knife once again in March, seeing him miss nine games and our Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool.
The former Lille star has not trained this week and his involvement on Sunday appears unlikely as a result, although Eddie Howe will issue an update tomorrow morning when he speaks to the media.
Much like Botman, Joelinton is in a position where the club may opt to keep him fresh for the summer and next season, rather than risk him over the final two weekends of 2024/25.
We are light in midfield now Joe Willock is managing yet another niggle, while Dan Burn and Fabian Schar are our only fully fit centre-backs.
However, with Lewis Miley eager for game time and Emil Krafth a stand-in option at the other end, we should have enough to get us over the line in against Arsenal and Everton.
