Aston Villa do not have first option to sign Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford in a £40million deal.

Villa signed Rashford on-loan in January for the remainder of the season - and can make it a permanent deal this summer.

But it has emerged Villa do not have first refusal on the 27-year-old. It means other clubs can sign Rashford - should one meet United's £40m asking price.

Rashford is under contract at Old Trafford until 2028 on a deal worth £300,000-a-week. But Rashford knows he has no future at United under manager Ruben Amorim.

The England international fell out with Amorim earlier this season, leading to him joining Villa in a bid to kick-start his career.

Rashford is keen to join a club which can offer him Champions League football, and is holding out for a move to Barcelona.

Villa remain locked in a desperate battle to secure a top five finish.

Under the terns of the loan agreement with United, which runs until June, Villa are said to be covering at least 75 per cent of Rashford’s wages, with his parent club making up the rest.

If Rashford and his representatives cannot find the striker a new club to join permanently this summer, the likelihood is the player will have to embark on another loan move.

Rashford's improved form at Villa earned him a recall to the England squad under new boss Thomas Tuchel.
