Report: Newcastle want to sign “world-class” £300,000-a-week star in blockbuster loan deal

Newcastle United could look to complete a loan move for Manchester City star Jack Grealish in the summer transfer window, according to reports - with the out-of-favour star needing a move to return to his best form, falling behind Jeremy Doku and Phil Foden in the pecking order under Pep Guardiola this season.

189 Premier League outings for both Aston Villa and City throughout his career has seen Grealish pick up 58 goal contributions in that time, which isn't a poor tally at all - but he does appear to need a boost to his career in order to reignite his talents in the top-flight, which Newcastle could offer.

The report by The Athletic's Sam Lee states that, amid Morgan Gibbs-White's links to City to replace Kevin de Bruyne, a deep dive into their purchases from Premier League teams must be conducted - and with Grealish being a prime example after joining from Villa four years ago, he's split opinion among the City supporters, despite Jamie O'Hara labelling him as 'world-class' just two years ago.

Lee writes that there are plenty who dispute his impact on the club winning the treble back in 2023, and given his fitness problems over the past two years, that has only added to the notion that he could leave the Etihad Stadium this summer to join Eddie Howe's side.

With that in mind, Lee has claimed that there is a possibility, even on a loan deal, and Newcastle are amongst those interested in a potential deal to take him to Tyneside.

Grealish cost City £100million, but in just 31 appearances this season on his £300,000-per-week contract, he's only registered eight goal contributions - and only 16 of those have been starts, with just one coming in the Premier League in 2025 against relegated side Leicester City.

Newcastle already have Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes on the left flank, but the duo have both been linked with moves away from St. James' Park during their time in the north-east, so Grealish could look to fill that potential void. However, he can also play as a No. 8, reducing the demand on Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes to perform consistently week in, week out, with European football set to return for the Magpies in September.
