There are still two games to play in the 2024-25 season, but with Liverpool having secured their 20th domestic title with a month to spare the players and coaching staff are spending their weeks on holiday and focus behind the scenes has fully turned to next season.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold set to join Real Madrid on a free, one of the biggest questions on that front was at right back. There, Liverpool appear to have more than settled on a plan, with reliable reports that they will trigger Jeremie Frimpong’s £30M release clause in the coming days.
The latest comes via The Times’ Paul Joyce, who echos previous reports suggesting the player is eager to join up and personal terms—believed to be a five-year deal through 2030—have already been hashed out, and confirms the club’s plans to trigger the clause.
Leverkusen are set to play their final game of the Bundesliga season this weekend, with the German league wrapping a week ahead of England, after which Liverpool could complete the signing either in the following week or once their own season wraps up on the 25th of May.
Frimpong marks a significant shift from having Alexander-Arnold on the right flank, with the exceptionally pacy 24-year-old Dutch wide player as much winger as right back and far more inclined to progress the ball on the dribble than with creative long-range passing.
Some of the defensive question marks that exist with Alexander-Arnold will carry over, though, and it could be Frimpong will split time with current Liverpool backup Conor Bradley depending on opponent. He could also viably see time behind Mohamed Salah on right wing.
