Report: Leeds now hold talks to sign £90,000-a-week Premier League "legend", not Jamie Vardy

Leeds United target Tomas Soucek has been told that he can depart West Ham United this summer, according to TBR Football.

After suffering heartbreak in the 2024 Championship play-off final, Leeds United have returned to the Premier League at the second time of asking under the management of Daniel Farke. The German guided Leeds to the title, which they won with 100 points, to secure a return to the English top flight.

Farke’s future at the club has been confirmed, putting an end to rumours about his position and allowing Leeds to focus entirely on the upcoming summer transfer window. Under the ownership of 49ers Enterprises, the Whites will be hoping to buck the recent trend of promoted teams being immediately relegated back to the second tier.

Unsurprisingly, Leeds are already looking at potential incomings ahead of the new season. It would appear that the club want to sign a Premier League veteran, though this player is not Jamie Vardy, who has previously been linked with Leeds.

As per TBR Football, West Ham are willing to let Soucek depart the club this summer. The Czech international joined the Hammers in 2020 and since then, has racked up over 200 appearances for the club, having been a key part of the first team under David Moyes during the Scot’s tenure as manager. Soucek has been called a "legend" for his exploits with the Hammers.

Even under both Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter, Soucek has remained part of the first team and has been one of West Ham’s more consistent performers in a poor season for the club. It seems clear, however, that Potter is willing to part ways with the midfielder, which offers Leeds the chance to sign him.

In Soucek, who earns £90,000 per week as per Capology, Leeds would be signing a player with vast amounts of Premier League experience, something that will be crucial for the Whites in their efforts to remain in the division. Not only that, but in Soucek, they would be recruiting a midfielder still within the prime years of his career.
