Former Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has admitted he is sad to see Marcus Rashford moving away from the club.
Rashford left United in the January transfer window after a fallout with head coach Ruben Amorim. It soon became clear, due to what Amorim had seen in training, the winger would not be part of his plans moving forward.
Once that became clear, Rashford was quick to negotiate an exit as he looked to rediscover regular football. Unai Emery personally requested Rashford for his Aston Villa side and he has performed well since moving to the West Midlands team.
The forward's season looks set to be over after he picked up a muscular injury and now speculation is building as to where he will move next. Staying at United seems highly unlikely with Villa holding a £40m buy option.
However, it has also been reported that Rashford has a keen interest in representing Barcelona. Reflecting on Rashford in conversation with GiveMeSport, Schweinsteiger insisted he knew that the winger would be a star when he was introduced into the first-team.
"I remember him quite well when Louis van Gaal brought him and Jesse Lingard to the first team, and like you could immediately see the talent he's got, the cheekiness as well, I must say, speed and technical things," the German legend explained.
"It's sad that he couldn't contribute more to United and also England, because maybe he needed just like the right players around him, people around him, to make it easier for him as well.

"I loved playing with him. I could see his unbelievable qualities. And I'm happy now to see him actually at Villa that he is like showing it again, and that's nice to see. [I] Wish him all the best."
During their time together at United, Schweinsteiger and Rashford played alongside each other on just six occasions.
