Leeds United are pushing on with their plans to expand Elland Road.

After finally securing promotion back to the Premier League, the 49ers Enterprises are committing millions to expand the stadium beyond 50,000 capacity.

With a timeframe of 2030 to complete the work by, plans are fully in place ahead of work commencing later this year in West Yorkshire.

There have been some issues brought up that will need to be addressed, though.

Leeds United begin mega Elland Road work

Dan Plumley has insisted that the timeframe set in place by Leeds is sensible, making the completion of the work realistic at Elland Road.

The football finance expert revealed that projects such as these likely stall because of budget issues or economic shocks, something he believes is unlikely under the 49ers Enterprises, who are ready to spend big.

“I think it’s a good time frame,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“What I mean by that is obviously, you don’t want to say you’ll get it done really quickly, but also, you want to give yourself a bit of time.

“It is a big project, but five years is a long time to put some of that groundwork in.

“The budget is always interesting because typically these things will stall because of budget issues or external economic shocks, but with this one, you would anticipate that the budget position is going to be okay, given where the club is at with the ownership structure.

“The owners are committed, so if it does stall, it’s usually on budget, but I think those time frames are realistic and achievable, which is a positive.”

49ers to break the mould in Premier League

All of this work is being put in place with the idea of Leeds once again becoming an established, consistent Premier League club.

The last six promoted clubs to the top-flight have been relegated, and it will take pushing the financial restrictions to the limit, or even breaking them, like Nottingham Forest, to change that.

Thankfully, stadium work can be removed from PSR calculations, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be heavy spend on the pitch either, that is guaranteed.
