Under the direction of Antonio Conte, Napoli are looking for someone who can succeed Kvaratskhelia. The Georgian international now plays for Paris Saint-Germain after leaving Napoli. At present, Napoli really want Garnacho. Napoli are really interested, and there is a good chance a transfer that seemed unlikely will happen soon.
Napoli’s Interest in Manchester United’s Garnacho
There are clear reasons behind Napoli’s decision to buy Garnacho. Already at 19, Garnacho is now considered one of Europe’s most promising young players. Moreover, his pace, skill, and smart attacking play stood out even though United have struggled for consistency. Garnacho is not yet a senior player, however, showed maturity in big matches. The youngster scored goals when it matters the most in the EPL and Champions League.
As soon as Kvaratskhelia left for PSG and Napoli got a big fee, they needed a fast and skillful wide attacker quickly. With his eyes on building a competitive Napoli team, Conte identified Garnacho as a potential transfer. Moreover, the pace and skills of the young winger makes him a suitable option to replace Kvaratskhelia.
Manchester United Lower Their Demands
Manchester United put a €75 million price on Garnacho at first with bonuses for performance added in. The Italian club found the original price too high for them, as their starting offer was said to be worth €50-55 million. Despite the money they had from Kvaratskhelia’s sale, Napoli are proceeding carefully with big spending.
Sky Sport Italia says that United have cut their demand to €65 million, meaning they are more open to negotiation. Even though the new asking price is over Napoli’s current offer, it brings the two teams closer together and allows more talks to happen. It has been reported that the revised figure comes with performance-based payments, so the basic fee could get even closer to Napoli’s offer.
Productive Meeting Bridges Gap
The major turning point in the negotiations appears to have come during a recent meeting between Manchester United and Napoli representatives. It’s believed that United have taken into account the player’s personal preference and his willingness to join Napoli. Moreover, Manchester United will need to raise funds for their own transfer plans this summer.
Manchester United are also navigating a turbulent period. With the club’s hierarchy in flux following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment and the appointment of a new sporting director. There is a clear desire to trim the squad and reconfigure the roster. Selling Garnacho — while painful for many fans — could help generate funds to target more experienced and consistent contributors.
Garnacho’s Potential Role Under Conte
In case the transfer happens, Garnacho could play a big role for Conte. Conte’s record includes creating teams that are hard to beat and can attack well, while getting the most from wingers such as Victor Moses and Ivan Perišić. Whenever Conte lines up with his common 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 setup, Garnacho would need to be creative and defensively responsible.
Garnacho’s development could benefit a lot in that environment, given how he proves he is always working hard at United. Conte’s orderly training system and high standards could be just what Garnacho needs to turn his raw skills into shining performance. After a poor season, Manchester United may finally make some big changes this summer to build a more competitive side.
