'Something unbelievable' – Man Utd ace is convinced one moment was 'pinnacle of everything,' it's 'not seen many times'

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has opened up on “something unbelievable” during his time at Old Trafford and is still in awe at what he witnessed.

Bruno Fernandes has remained an influential presence in the Manchester United first-team squad and the 30-year-old midfielder has continued to make an impact.

The United skipper has played in a whopping 54 matches in the 2024-25 campaign and Fernandes has netted 19 times and registered 19 assists across all competitions.

Fernandes retained the United captain’s armband under Ruben Amorim after the current United manager replaced Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout in 2024.

Erik ten Hag was sacked as United manager last October, but it was the ex-Ajax boss who handed Fernandes the captaincy during his time at Old Trafford.

Fernandes inked a new United contract last summer and is tied down to Old Trafford until 2027, but the Red Devils midfielder has attracted interest from Saudi Arabia.

Bruno Fernandes speaks out on the Man Utd fans and the atmosphere in both the Premier League and the Europa League

Manchester United have endured a difficult campaign and the Red Devils languish in 16th place in the Premier League table with only two league matches left.

Ruben Amorim’s men suffered their 17th defeat in the Premier League in the 2024-25 season after West Ham defeated United 2-0 at Old Trafford last Sunday.

Despite the Red Devils’ difficulties in the Premier League, United have found success in the Europa League and are through to the final of the UEFA tournament.

Speaking to former United player Owen Hargreaves, Bruno Fernandes admitted that he has felt the support of the United fans in the Europa League run this season.

“We felt in the Europa League, the atmosphere from the fans, they always felt we could go to the end of this competition and win it,” Fernandes told TNT Sports.

“And obviously in the Premier League we started going behind, and behind, and behind, and they felt, ‘We can’t get much more of what we want from the Premier League.’

“Because at United, you don’t want to be in the top four. You want to win the Premier League.

“That’s the aim and we can’t hide from that. It’s the past of the club, it’s the history of the club, and it has to be the present and the future of this club, always fighting for that trophy.”

Bruno Fernandes is still in awe at Man Utd’s Europa League comeback win over Lyon at Old Trafford in the quarter-finals

United and Lyon played out a 2-2 draw in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in France in April ahead of the return leg.

The Red Devils were leading Lyon 2-0 in the second-leg Europa League quarter-final clash at Old Trafford before Amorim’s side blew their advantage in the second half.

Lyon scored twice to force the last-eight tie to extra time before the Ligue 1 side were 4-2 against United and the Red Devils were on the verge of being knocked out.

However, United rallied back against Lyon and the Red Devils defied the odds by mounting a 5-4 comeback win over the French club at Old Trafford last month.

Fernandes, who converted a penalty in extra time against Lyon, called the Red Devils’ Europa League victory the “pinnacle of everything” this season.

“But as soon as they [the fans] understood that in the Europa League we could go further, we felt that, the togetherness in every game,” he added.

“I think the Lyon game is the pinnacle of everything. In seven minutes, you can turn around three goals, it’s something unbelievable and probably not seen many times.

“It was that little bit of belief that everyone else had that probably in the Premier League we wouldn’t have had in a normal game.”

United will meet Tottenham in the Europa League final at the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao on 21st May, with kick-off for the match scheduled for 8pm in the UK.
