Tottenham Hotspur travel to face Aston Villa in their penultimate match of the Premier League season on Friday night.
The Lilywhites have endured a torrid domestic campaign so far and currently sit 17th in the top flight standings, having lost 20 of their 36 games in the competition.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have reached the final of the Europa League, however, where they will face fellow Premier League strugglers Manchester United in Bilbao later this month.
Ahead of the match, it has emerged that the North London side are the frontrunners to sign a Brazilian defender this summer.
According to GiveMeSport, Tottenham are leading the race to sign AS Monaco full-back Vanderson this summer.
The report claims that those steering Spurs’ recruitment have identified the Brazilian as a suitable candidate to bolster their squad this summer, despite the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Postecoglou’s position as head coach.

The Australian has been under intense pressure this season amid the Lilywhites’ dismal run of form, and it remains to be seen whether or not he will still be in charge at the start of next season.
Regardless, the report suggests that Tottenham are interested in the 23-year-old, who primarily plays as a right-back but can also operate on the left side of a back four.
Vanderson joined Monaco from Brazilian side Gremio in 2022 and has since played 124 times for his current club across all competitions.
The Brazilian has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the French top flight, but his impressive displays have attracted interest from a number of clubs in England.
The defender is under contract at Monaco until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, which puts the French side in a relatively commanding position.
Despite this, the report suggests that the Ligue 1 giants could be willing to allow the player to depart for a fee of around £30 million this summer.
