Report: £34m defender set to snub Everton after receiving a proposal from Saudi Arabia

Everton have plenty of work to do this summer – but one defender target looks to be slipping through the net for David Moyes.

The Toffees have ended up staving off relegation pretty easily after David Moyes came in and made a brilliant impact.

Moyes returned to the club in January for a second spell as manager, replacing Sean Dyche, who felt he’d taken Everton as far as he could.

Preparations are already underway for next season, and Everton are looking at a host of new players, with many set to leave the club.

Moyes will likely be adding to his pool of defensive options and one man Everton have been looking at recently is David Hancko.

But there’s been a claim today to suggest this move is now pretty unlikely.

Foot Mercato have reported that Hancko is now the subject of a pursuit by Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr.

Feyenoord have previously resisted attempts from Newcastle, Atlético Madrid and Juventus to sign Hancko.

But potentially, mega-rich Al-Nassr may now tempt them into selling.

No bid has gone in from them yet. It is thought Feyenoord value Hancko around the £34 million mark.

But Al-Nassr are said to have presented a five-year contract offer to Hancko himself – and the player is apparently keen to make the move.

Of course, in recent times, a number of high profile players have joined Al-Nassr from European clubs.

Cristiano Ronaldo set the ball rolling in 2023, and the likes of Aymeric Laporte, Marcelo Brozovic, Otavio, Jhon Duran and Sadio Mane have since followed.

Hancko unlikely for Everton, but John Stones could return

At this point it looks like Hancko won’t be playing his football at Bramley-Moore Dock next season.

But one man who could is John Stones, with Everton having shown an interest in the Manchester City centre-back recently.

Stones was once an Everton player of course, and Moyes was in charge when the Toffees plucked him from Barnsley back in 2013 for around £3 million.

The 30-year-old’s injury problems in recent times have been well documented.

Stones would apparently be tempted by a move back to Everton if the club offered him a long-term contract.

But it remains to be seen if the club will be willing to do this due to the player’s rotten injury record.
