Draymond Green Sends Parting Message to Warriors Star on Thursday

After taking a 1-0 series lead over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors dropped four straight, ending their season in the second round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs.

A big part of the Warriors' collapse was the absence of Steph Curry. The All-NBA guard suffered a hamstring injury late in Game 1, leaving him out for the next four.

With Curry sidelined, Kuminga saw a significant increase in minutes and played a key role in keeping the Warriors competitive with his scoring. Over Games 2–5, he averaged 24.2 points on 58.3% shooting, along with 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

Kuminga will now enter the offseason as a restricted free agent after his four-year, $24.85 million rookie contract expired. With his play over the last two seasons, Kuminga will likely demand a lot more money than Golden State can afford, already sitting well over the 2025-26 salary cap.

Green even knows there is a slight chance Kuminga won't be able to return next season. On Thursday, during an exit interview, Green shared a message on his fourth-year teammate and had nothing but praise.

"His future is bright," Green said. "Whether it's here or somewhere else, his future is bright. That type of talent usually figures it out. And I think he will figure it out. Like I said, I don't know where that will be, but wherever it will be, I think he will be just fine because in his four years, I think he's grown a ton."

Green added that he hopes Kuminga remains in Golden State, but admitted he’s not sure if that will be possible.

"He has my utmost love and support because I want to see him do well," Green added. "In an ideal world, that would be here, but this game we play and this world we're in and this business we're in, it ain't always ideal. We'll see what happens, but definitely wishing him the best of luck with his free agency."

The Warriors will now head into the offseason with some major holes to fill. But they have solidified their core for next season with Curry, Butler and Green still under contract.
