One Chelsea star has become the latest player linked with a possible summer move to Liverpool.
After bringing in just one senior player in his first season at the club, Arne Slot’s side are expected to be busy in the summer transfer market, with several positions expected to be strengthened in this window.
The club hierarchy wants to equip Slot with the tools needed to bring the club another Premier League title next season. Money is said not to be a problem, although Liverpool will remain true to their model of smart signing, and spending big when it is only absolutely necessary.
Meanwhile, one area of the pitch that Liverpool will prioritise this summer is the attack. Despite being the Premier League side with the most goals in the league this season, Slot is not completely satisfied with his No. 9 options and is looking to bring in a new striker this summer.
One or both of the current options, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota will likely leave and the search for their possible replacement is already on the way.
Several options being considered are Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko, Hugo Ekitike, João Pedro and even Victor Osimhen. All the aforementioned players have been named in the past as players Liverpool are considering.
However, reports in France have now thrown in a new name and it is in the form of Chelsea attacker Christopher Nkunku.
The Frenchman was linked with a switch to Anfield before signing for Chelsea in 2023. However, his move to Stamford Bridge has not yielded success, and he is looking to move this summer.
According to the French news outlet, FootMercato, Liverpool is a possible next destination for Nkunku, with the Reds said to have begun talks with the 27-year-old.
Reporting on the former RB Leipzig striker’s future, Foot Mercato wrote,
“Today, he’s considering a summer departure after two years at Chelsea. And many have noticed that he’s still as effective as ever. A strong performer in Europe and the club’s second-highest scorer with 14 goals, the now 27-year-old French striker continues to attract the elite.
“According to our information, he’s on a shortlist drawn up by Liverpool, with whom talks have begun. The English champions are looking to strengthen their attacking lineup and continue to value versatile players.”
Liverpool are not the only club interested in signing Nkunku this summer, though. Newcastle United and Bayern Munich are also said to be keen.
However, the players desire to play in the Champions League next season, will determine where he ends up.
