Paul Merson has now predicted the score for Everton's final game at Goodison Park vs Southampton

Everton welcome Southampton to Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon in what will be the final game at the Grand Old Lady.

It will be an emotional day for Everton supporters, with likely not a dry eye in the terraces as they wave goodbye to their home of 133 years.

Ahead of Sunday’s game, former manager and current Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has admitted he’s sad to see Everton leaving Goodison.

Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho are also among many to open up about their love for Goodison, which will be housed by the women’s team from next season.

Paul Merson predicts Everton vs Southampton this weekend

Writing in his Sportskeeda column, Paul Merson has predicted the score for Everton’s final game at Goodison Park against Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

“What a game, it’s going to be a massive atmosphere at Goodison Park,” Merson wrote. “Southampton frustrated Manchester City last weekend, but I don’t think they will spoil the party on Merseyside.

“Everton bidding goodbye to Goodison Park will be an emotional moment for many of their fans. This has been an iconic venue and frankly, we’ll all miss it.

“Moving to a new stadium will be a challenge for Everton next season. But with David Moyes in charge, I think they will be fine.

“It won’t become a fortress, that’s not how it works. I have a feeling they can finish mid-table and should try and string together a decent cup run next season. That would be a big achievement for Everton.”

Merson predicted Everton to beat Southampton 3-0.

Already-relegated Southampton could do the double over the Toffees, so Moyes’ men will have to be on their A game.

The reverse fixture saw Russell Martin’s side pick up a 1-0 win, with Adam Armstrong netting a late winner.

With all that said, Everton will still be the heavy favourites in this one, and the players will be desperate to bow out with a win for supporters.

A special edition kit could be worn by the Everton squad.
