Jeremie Frimpong has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool.
The Bayer Leverkusen right-back was revealed as a target for the newly-crowned Premier League champions by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Romano stated Liverpool included Frimpong – who played for Celtic between 2019 and 2021 – on their transfer shortlist for the summer’s plan to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Alexander-Arnold is heading for European giants Real Madrid and it means Liverpool are keen on signing the 24-year-old Frimpong.
talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook said on Wednesday that Frimpong to Liverpool was a “possibility”, but talks were not as advanced as what was being made out in the media.
Now however, there’s been significant progress.

Liverpool set to ‘trigger’ Frimpong release clause
According to BBC Sport, Liverpool are now ready to trigger Frimpong’s Bayer Leverkusen transfer release clause, which is said to be worth only £29.5m.
The Reds are pursuing a deal to make Frimpong their first summer signing with manager Arne Slot keen on his fellow Dutchman’s signature.
Talks have reportedly progressed well over recent days and it means Celtic are one step closer to receiving a hefty transfer windfall.

That’s because the Hoops inserted a 30 percent sell-on clause in Frimpong’s contract and it could mean they will receive around £5.5m if the negotiations are successful.
Frimpong’s Celtic career vs Leverkusen
Frimpong was a favourite amongst the Celtic fans and it was a shame that he only spent two years at the Parkhead club.
The diminutive full-back only featured 51 times for the Hoops but won all three major domestic trophies in Scotland amid Celtic’s dominance.
