Dean Henderson: FA Cup final victory can take Crystal Palace to next level and inspire next generation of fans

Dean Henderson reckons FA Cup final glory on Saturday evening will send Crystal Palace’s fanbase skyrocketing.

The Eagles are bidding to win their first major piece of major silverware and would also qualify for the Europa League if they defeat Manchester City at Wembley.

Henderson has kept clean sheets in 3-0 wins over Fulham and Aston Villa in the previous two rounds.

“I realised before I came that we have probably got the biggest catchment area for fans in the country,” said the England international, 28. “We need to tap into that and bringing success to the football club will only maximise that.

“It would be fantastic to inspire the next generation in South London. You want them to be walking around with Palace shirts on. I think that’s the aim. That is what we can bring to the area and take the club to the next level. That is what we are all looking to do.”

Henderson was one of the Palace players to donate to the fundrasing for a ‘tifo’ against Villa. This time Holmesdale Fanatics have raised more than £45,000 for Saturday’s display.

“The one against Villa was top class,” said Henderson. “I don’t know what they are going to do with 40-odd grand – but I’m excited to see it.”
