The short hair he's rocking isn't as recognizable. The smooth scoring stroke was.
Brice Williams showed off his point-producing prowess in a scrimmage at the NBA combine on Thursday.
The former Husker scored a game-high 24 points on 7-of-12 shooting on Wednesday. That included going 4-of-9 from behind the arc while making all six of his free throws.
It was a strong bounce-back performance after Williams was 0-for-8, though he did have seven rebounds, in a scrimmage earlier in the day.
The combine is going on in Chicago this week as prospects make their case prior to the June 25 NBA draft.
Williams is coming off a senior season at Nebraska in which he set the single-season record for points, earning consensus first-team all-Big Ten honors.
"You take Brice off this team, obviously we're not in a very good place," Husker head coach Fred Hoiberg said late in the season. "Just what he has done as our go-to guy. And the load that he carries every single night. I think that is the true test of who's going to be on the all-conference teams are the guys that are that important to their team. Obviously we're a group, we're a unit, but Brice is the head of it."
At the combine Williams measured in at 6-5 1/4, 205.8 pounds with a 6-10 3/4 wingspan and 8-7 1/2 standing reach.
"I love playing against high-level competition, competing. It's been a lot with all the people, all the media and all the spectators, but it's been fun and it's been a good experience," Williams said in a combine interview with a reporter from the Charlotte Hornets. "It takes getting used to just all the media, all the eyes on you at all times. It adds a little bit of pressure, but it's kind of like just getting used to that. Because if you want to play at this level you have to deal with that night in, night out. So it's good."
Williams said he got out what he put in at Nebraska and credited his former coaches at Husker and when he played college ball at Charlotte.
When asked what a fan base can expect from him, he added that he's a hard-working and loyal guy and a winner.
"I don't really try to get ahead of myself. It would be nice for any team to pick me and any team to believe in me," he said. "But I'm taking it day by day."
