FORMER US national team boss Anthony Hudson said he is not surprised at how well Tyler Adams has done in a Cherries shirt this season.
Hudson was a part of the USMNT set up for more than two years, initially as an assistant to manager Gregg Berhalter and then as interim manager in his own right.
While Adams did not play for Hudson when he was interim boss, he was a central part of the side in their World Cup qualifying run in 2021 and 2022 and played each of the US’ four games at the World Cup in Qatar.
Hudson said Adams is a ‘tough’ player and Andoni Iraola’s system suits the midfielder – who Hudson said has a key role to play in a developing US national team.
Speaking to Zach Lowy at RG, Hudson said on Adams: “I’m not surprised with how well he’s doing at Bournemouth.
“I think he’s at a good club for the way he plays. I think that suits him, the way they set up, the way they play. I think really suits Tyler.
“We obviously watched him when he was in Germany a lot when we were scouting him for the national team and he's a tough kid. He's got some real special qualities as a player.
“I think he's just a really important player for the national team. These guys are young, and I know they've taken a lot of stick from the American media and fanbase in recent times, but I can assure you, it's a young, developing squad.
“It's going to take time. You can't say this about all national teams. I've been in situations.
“I know other players, and especially in England different countries where players just don't want to go back and play for the national team, and they’re very reluctant to show up. They don't want to be there.
“I can assure you, players like Tyler and Christian [Pulisic] love playing for the States. And it means a lot to them. They love their teammates.
“They’ve had a couple of slip ups recently, but you can never question the heart and the desire that Tyler and Christian both have for playing for their country.”
