The season is almost at its end and for champions Liverpool there is much to look forward to. The Reds will lift the Premier League trophy on May 25 after they host Crystal Palace at Anfield, before they parade the silverware throughout Merseyside the following day.

But Arne Slot and his backroom team are thinking beyond that as the Reds look to ensure they stay at the summit of English football for a while longer. Liverpool are hoping to complete the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Levekusen and are also in the conversation for his team-mate Florian Wirtz.

With developments on and off the pitch, here's what our LFC fan jury has to say on this week's events:

Florian Wirtz and Dean Huijsen interest shows big change as Liverpool transfer plan emerges

James Noble (Worcestershire, @james_noble98) - Frimpong and Wirtz could signal an evolution of Liverpool

This week looks to have steadily developed into one of promising intrigue and intent from a Liverpool perspective. That, primarily, has come via widespread reports linking the Reds to moves for Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz.

The pursuit of Frimpong appears a response to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s impending departure. While the 24-year-old represents a considerably different profile to the No.66, his pace, ability to play several roles, from right wing-back to attacking midfield, release clause of around €35 million, and homegrown status – courtesy of spending nine years at Manchester City’s academy – give this possible move several upsides. Questions over his suitability could, simultaneously, hint at a desire from Arne Slot and co to evolve and further diversify our approach.

Wirtz looks to still be in the process of assessing potential suitors. The 22-year-old German playmaker represents one of the most sought after footballers in Europe and remains strongly linked to Bayern Munich and Manchester City. While there is apparent recognition of the fact he may prefer to remain in Germany, and his price would likely be over £100m, his mix of consistent creativity, explosive ball-striking and intensity in and out of possession make him a potentially brilliant short and long-term addition.

It’s good to see signs that the club is moving proactively to build on this season’s successes and towards future ones.

Andrew Cullen (Widnes, @brothersred5) - We must reinvigorate our ranks

It was disappointing to hear the boos reverberate around Anfield when Trent entered the pitch on Sunday. Being frustrated with the move is forgivable, but booing a player in a Liverpool shirt is less forgivable. It’s not the Liverpool way. That’s not to say that the stadium had to ring with euphoria when he stepped on to the pitch; even silence would have been preferable to the deafening boos.

It was a misstep to bring Trent on. Slot mentioned in his post-match press conference that he was trying to win the game by bringing Trent on. It had the opposite effect: the substitution deflated Trent, the team, and the stadium.

Too much time has now been spent dissecting Trent’s decision. The saga should be archived as this Liverpool 2.0 seeks to create its own history. As Trent leaves, Liverpool fans will be asking who is arriving.

I would like to see pace and power added to the team. Some of the early ripples of transfer gossip has whetted the appetite. We have been ferocious and efficient in the market over the last seven years (with some noticeable blips).

If the rumours are to be believed, there seems to be a summer blueprint which is about to get off the ground. It’s self-evident that we should not be bringing in players to fill squad places; we need players who can challenge from day one for a starting position. Competition brings hunger, and hunger brings success.

Our rivals will seek to revitalise over the summer, and we too must reinvigorate our ranks if we are to remain where we belong

Rhys Buchanan (Aigburth, @Rhys_Buchanan) - Frimpong the perfect tonic ahead of exciting summer

The recent incoming transfer news around Frimpong felt like the perfect tonic to help us move past the tension and unease of Trent departing.

I’m never one to get my hopes up until I see that official club announcement, however it feels like all the signposts are there that this one could well be nailed on.

From what I’ve seen of him so far, I think he’ll be a really exciting and lively addition to the side and bring a positive new dynamic to our play.

Much like Mac Allister’s arrival a few seasons ago, one of the most impressive factors in the potential deal for Frimpong is the low transfer fee that’s been bandied around, something that will only further take the sting out of Trent’s departure on a free. It's looking like a very exciting summer indeed!
