Ayden Heaven is in Manchester United’s travelling squad for their Premier League clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Friday, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The talented centre-back has not played since March, when he came off due to an injury in a league clash at Leicester City.
He was close to returning last month but suffered a setback, and his fitness has been uncertain since then.
Described as ‘complete’ by manager Ruben Amorim, the youngster has been impressive since joining from Arsenal during the winter transfer window.
Heaven has played as the left centre-back in Amorim’s three-man defence and has adapted easily to his demands.
He made his debut as a substitute in the FA Cup fifth-round loss to Fulham and has featured three times since then.
His return is a boost for United, considering the fitness status of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt.
The duo will miss the clash with Chelsea and have to race against time to feature in the Europa League final.
Hayden will likely play a minimal role at Chelsea and is also unlikely to start against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.
Amorim already hinted that Luke Shaw would play as the left centre-back.
Heaven would have been the perfect fit in the role for the final, but Amorim will want to manage his minutes to prevent him from getting injured.
He could return to the starting line-up for the final game of the season against Aston Villa at Old Trafford.
Having played well in Amorim’s three-man defence, the England youth international will play a vital role for United next season.
