Man United are looking to sign a natural right-wing back, who suits Ruben Amorim’s system.

Man United defender Diogo Dalot has been a loyal and dependable servant for Ruben Amorim this season. However, the Portuguese defender is not a natural wingback and plays out of position.

Due to the fact that Amorim seems unwilling to change his system of play and keep sticking with the 3-4-3 formation, it is likely that United will try and sign a right-wing back in the summer, to replace Dalot.

However, United aren’t the only team looking to add at the position, with the likes of Liverpool and Man City having glaring needs there due to the imminent permanent departures of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kyle Walker.

Man United want to sign Vanderson

One name that has recently been connected with a move to Old Trafford is Monaco wing-back Vanderson, who has attracted a lot of Premier League attention over the past few weeks.

The Brazilian wing-back is 23 years old, and has impressed for the French side this season, scoring two goals and providing five assists in 40 appearances in all competitions.

According to GiveMeSport, Amorim is considering a move for the 23-year-old this summer, and the Red Devils are keeping tabs on Vanderson as things stand. It is not clear whether Amorim is committing to signing a new right-back, as they have more pressing needs, but it seems Vanderson is the number one target at the position.

The report also says that it is increasingly likely that Vanderson would leave Monaco for a fee of around £30m, as that is what the French side would be willing to sell him for this summer.

In an interview with Monaco’s official website, the club’s then Sporting Director, Paul Mitchell described why he decided to sign the 23-year-old from Brazilian side Gremio in 2022. He said: “He is a very dynamic and forward-looking defender, who spares no effort, and is able to bring his technical skills to bear in the opposition half and to be decisive.”

Man United face Premier League competition to sign Vanderson

The Red Devils aren’t the only Premier League team to show an interest in the Brazilian full-back, as several rivals have also decided to keep tabs on the 23-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window.

Tottenham are understood to be the most interested so far, as they look to add more depth at the back after a season that has been ravaged by injury problems. Meanwhile, Liverpool are looking for a long-term replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
