Newcastle United team news ahead of the Premier League clash against Arsenal on Sunday.

The Magpies sit third in the Premier League table and require one victory from their remaining two games to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Beating Arsenal and Everton would see United finish as top-flight runners-up for the first time since 1996-97.

Four Newcastle United players ruled out vs Arsenal

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Howe revealed: “Kieran, I don't think so for this weekend, but it's not a big injury.”

Joelinton is set to miss the final week of the campaign with an ongoing knee issue. The Brazilian hasn’t featured since the 4-1 defeat at Aston Villa last month but Howe hadn’t totally ruled out a return - until now.

“He's working away behind the scenes,” said Howe. “Typical Joe, he's absolutely foot to the floor to try and get back fit. That's his nature. The biggest possibility is we don't see him again this season and we get him ready for next.”

Lewis Hall (foot) and Matt Targett (hamstring) are also unavailable until the 2025-26 season.

Newcastle United assessing two players ahead of Arsenal - Sven Botman latest

Sven Botman made his first start since February against Chelsea before being replaced in the 55th minute after icing a knee problem at half-time.

Given the Dutchman’s recent history with knee problems, it was feared he could face another spell on the sidelines, however those fears have been allayed by Howe.

“It was a knock,” Howe said. “He got a bang on his knee but it was sore. We're not sure about Sven's availability for the weekend but we'll give him every chance. We don't think it's a serious injury.

“He's been unlucky. The first injury came from a knock which ended in a minor operation. You're going to get knocks and bangs. He's been really unlucky on the last two occasions.”

Similar to Botman, Newcastle will give Joe Willock every chance of proving his fitness for the visit to his former club. The midfielder sat out of last weekend with a knee issue.

“Joe Willock, we'll leave the door open for him,” Howe said. “There's a slight chance.”

Eddie Howe previews Arsenal vs Newcastle United

Newcastle have won all three of their games against Arsenal this season and not yet conceded a goal.

“I think obviously it bodes well for us,” Howe said. “I think these games we've had against Arsenal this year have been very difficult games. They've been really evenly poised.

“I think we've come out on the right side of them but the games themselves have been really tight and really difficult as we knew they would be. The home game was decided by a brilliant goal from Alex.

“And the cup games, they're always different games. There's a different feel to them. We're pleased with how we performed but we know that if our standards had dropped a really small amount, Arsenal would have capitalised on that.

“I think we go into the game with confidence from the previous games, but with the realisation we need to perform at our best as we have done against them.”
