Francesco Calvo was perhaps 'the only good communicator' within the Juventus structure - but his impending departure to Aston Villa isn't necessarily one the club seem to be losing too much sleep over as they are in the process of drawing up plans for a fresh start behind the scenes.

It was reported recently that Calvo, who is Juve's Managing Director of Revenue & Institutional Relations having previously held other roles within the club prior to this position which he took up in 2023, is set to make the switch to England, where he'll take over the reins from the soon to depart president of business operations Chris Heck.

Calvo, who worked briefly with Villa's president of football operations Monchi when they were together at Roma in 2018, has reportedly been earmarked as Heck's replacement in time for the new season and will arrive with a CV packed with plenty of experience from working on the continent.

Italian pundit Dario Pellegrini believes that, while Calvo might've exited the Old Lady anyway because of the substantial shake-up at various levels of the hierarchy that the club wish to conduct this summer, he has been an essential figure at the club in recent years.

“Calvo was also a very important part of the management and of the new post-Agnelli cycle,” he told TiAmoCalciomercato. “He was a good communicator, perhaps the only one in all of Juventus. He tried to bring about a revolution even on his own, there wasn’t a good relationship with [former boss Massimo] Allegri, [sporting director Cristian] Giuntoli was also chosen through him.

“It seems that his farewell was his decision, for a higher salary proposed by Aston Villa, but in Juventus from a commercial point of view more was expected. It was also an unfortunate story, there was an agreement with ITA-Airways, but the government blew it up.

“It’s a farewell without too many regrets and also in view of the Club World Cup, an intense moment from a commercial point of view. The feeling is that Juventus wants to start from scratch, no one can consider themselves safe in all sectors.”
