Report: There's now a 'strong chance' £35m Man City player will leave the club this summer

Manchester City could look a lot different next season.

After a tough 2024/25 campaign, Pep Guardiola is set to bring in several new faces this summer, with the legendary coach targeting at least four or five.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz is the Man City coach’s top target to replace Kevin De Bruyne, while AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders is a solution for the potential exit of Ilkay Gundogan during the summer months.

Midfield is not the only area of the pitch Guardiola is looking to revamp, and it is now being reported that a £35m club legend looks almost certain to follow De Bruyne out the exit door at the Etihad Stadium ahead of the new season.

Ederson looks set to leave Manchester City

There have been doubts about the future of Ederson in the build-up to the summer transfer window, and The Athletic are now reporting that the Brazilian is almost certain to leave Manchester this summer.

“There is some doubt about the future of several players, including John Stones and Jack Grealish, but there is a strong chance that Ederson will follow De Bruyne out of City this summer,” Man City reporter Sam Lee wrote

This will not come as a surprise to City fans as Ederson was keen to leave Man City for Al-Nassr last summer, but no club could match the Manchester side’s £50m asking price.

Al-Ittihad are keen on signing Ederson ahead of the new season, and it looks like the Saudi club will be successful if they make an acceptable bid to City.

The Brazilian has become a legend at the Etihad since his £35m move from Benfica, and replacing the goalkeeper will be tough work for Guardiola.

The latest on Man City’s goalkeeper search

There has not been a concrete update on Man City’s search for a new goalkeeper in weeks as the Manchester club are fully focused on recruiting for their midfield next season.

City’s top target seems to be Porto’s Diogo Costa, who has already given an initial green light to a move to England as the Portuguese goalkeeper is keen on joining the Premier League giants as Ederson’s replacement.

It was reported at the end of April that his agent, Jorge Mendes, has been trying to find an agreement to pay under the player’s release clause as Man City hope to sign the player for around £34m (€40m).

It is uncertain if the Manchester club has other targets, but Costa looks like he could be City’s next goalkeeper as the Porto star is someone Hugo Viana knows well from his time in Portugal.
