Manchester United are set for a pivotal summer transfer window that could define whether or not Ruben Amorim will ever be a success at Old Trafford.
The 40-year-old has now been in charge for six months, but the Red Devils have arguably regressed since his appointment and they could incredibly finish the Premier League season in 17th place.
Man Utd will have the chance to qualify for next year’s Champions League when they face Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, although major changes will be needed if they do in fact secure their place in Europe’s elite club competition.
Amorim is prioritising the addition of a new centre forward this summer, amid Man Utd’s struggles in front of goal this campaign, but he is also hoping to bring a wing-back, a central midfielder, a centre-back and a goalkeeper to Old Trafford.
Given Man Utd’s lack of transfer funds, the club will be required to sell a number of first-team stars this summer in order to afford their top targets.
Below, FootballTransfers runs through six players who must be sold by Man Utd during the 2025 summer window.
Tyrell Malacia
Tyrell Malacia has endured an injury-hit spell at Man Utd and it’s time for the club to cut their losses and sanction a permanent departure.
The Dutchman is unlikely to ever become a regular in Amorim’s starting XI and he has even struggled to solidify a place at PSV Eindhoven since his loan move back to the Eredivisie in January.
In addition to Malacia, fellow defenders Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans are both set to depart Old Trafford on Bosman deals.
Casemiro
Casemiro has enjoyed an upturn in form over the past few weeks and Amorim has been eager to shower praise in the Brazilian’s direction thanks to his improvement on the pitch.
However, he is now 33 years old and his huge wages are an immense burden on the Old Trafford outfit.
A squad revamp is needed given Man Utd’s woeful Premier League form and shifting Casemiro in order to bring in a younger replacement would be an extremely sensible piece of business.
Jadon Sancho
Chelsea have an obligation to buy Jadon Sancho for €30 million this summer, although they could still opt to pay a penalty fee and send him back to Old Trafford.
If Enzo Maresca’s side choose the latter, Man Utd will need to swiftly agree a sale.
Sancho has been a major disappointment for the Red Devils, his relationship with the club appears to have reached the point of no return and Man Utd would be wise to immediately look to offload him.

Antony
Antony has enjoyed a career renaissance at Real Betis and he finally looks like the player who cost Man Utd a whopping €95m back in 2022.
However, the Red Devils should sell him while his stock is high, and a permanent move to La Liga appears to be on the cards.
While Antony has impressed in Spain, his time at Man Utd was extremely underwhelming and a sale would be best for all parties.
Marcus Rashford
Marcus Rashford confirmed the end of his Man Utd career with an infamous interview back in December, during which he admitted his desire for a “new adventure.”
The England international has since excelled on loan at Aston Villa and a permanent move to Unai Emery’s side could well take place this summer.
Barcelona have also been tipped to pursue a move, with Rashford almost guaranteed to be sold by Man Utd before the start of the 2025-26 campaign.
Rasmus Hojlund
Man Utd banked on Rasmus Hojlund’s potential when they signed him for €77.8m from Atalanta in 2023, but they are yet to see any significant reward on their investment.
The Denmark international has failed to adapt to Premier League football and with Man Utd targeting a new centre forward, he is likely to be offloaded this summer.
Joshua Zirkzee is perhaps fortunate to avoid being included, although the Dutchman has shown glimpses of potential and he would be a useful back-up option alongside Chido Obi next campaign.
