Gary O’Neil blunder as Wolves rejected £21m offer for ‘brilliant’ player who now can’t even get …

Wolves haven’t been afraid to cash in on their best players, but they could have missed a trick during the 2024 window.

Last summer saw skipper Max Kilman join West Ham for £40m, whilst star attacker Pedro Neto signed for Chelsea.

The Molineux outfit raised just shy of £100m through those two sales, something which may have deterred them from selling another one of their assets.

With that in mind, Wolves rejected a £21 million bid for Hwang from Marseille last July, and it seems like that reluctance to sell has come back to bite Fosun.

Wolves suffering from Hwang Hee-chan transfer mistake

Hindsight is a beautiful thing, especially in the world of football, and it seems like Wolves’ decision to reject Marseille’s approach has proved costly a year on.

Hwang was hailed as ‘brilliant’ by Gary Lineker during the 2023/24 season, but the attacker has since fallen down the pecking order at Wolves.

The South Korean international has barely featured this campaign, with just five league starts to his name.

Even when the 29-year-old has been given the chance to prove his worth, he has failed to do so, something which soon cost him his future at Molineux.

Hwang could leave Wolves this summer

Vitor Pereira left Hwang out of his squad recently versus Leicester, which could provide a hint as to where the South Korean’s future lies.

Given his lack of game time and lacklustre displays, Pereira has hinted that Hwang could leave this summer.

West Ham were considering Hwang as a possible option back in January, but Wolves should recognise the need to find a viable replacement before sanctioning any sale.

Matheus Cunha’s expected departure will leave a gaping hole in the Wolves frontline, then add Hwang’s possible sale into that – Pereira’s forward ranks could be seriously light come the start of next season.
